CannaBarn is the adult-use dispensary in Abington set inside a 120-year-old gambrel-roofed building on Route 58, at 678 Adams Street. It opened on July 5, 2024 as the town's third licensed cannabis shop, and as of 2026 it is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 10 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. For adults 21+ looking it up, here is what to know about CannaBarn, the other licensed stores in Abington, and the rules that apply after checkout.

The building has a longer history than the store. Before cannabis, it housed a bedding store and, earlier, the office of the Jenkins and Simmons trucking terminal. An old Remington & Sherman safe from the trucking days is still built into a wall. The owners went for barn-wood interiors, walnut trim and corrugated metal, and told the Abington News they wanted a farm-to-table feel rather than an Apple-store one. The road to opening was long: interest in 2020, a town vote that November to raise the local retail cap to five shops, planning board approval in spring 2022 and final state approval in June 2024.
The other licensed shops in Abington
Abington, a South Shore town of commuter-rail stops and Route 18 retail, now has four adult-use storefronts, an unusual count for a town its size. Three of them sit on Bedford Street (Route 18), across town from CannaBarn:
- Bud's Goods & Provisions, 1540 Bedford Street, the town's first. In-store, pickup and curbside, with cash or debit accepted.
- Elevated Roots, 1423 Bedford Street, the newest, which opened in January 2026 and lists daily hours of 9 AM to 9 PM.
- A third Bedford Street shop sits between them. The Cannabis Control Commission's Where to Buy tool lists every licensed store in town with its current status.
The dispensary directory carries current listings across the South Shore.
Before you go
- ID. Adults 21+ only, with a valid government-issued photo ID. Massachusetts does not require residency, so an out-of-state license or a passport works. A photo of an ID on a phone does not.
- Limits. Since April 2026, adults 21+ can buy and carry up to 2 ounces of flower, up to 10 grams of concentrate, and up to 1,000 mg of THC in edibles per purchase. Those are ceilings. Start low, go slow with edibles; a low-milligram serving and a long wait is the right first move.
- Tax. Massachusetts adds 6.25% sales tax and a 10.75% cannabis excise tax, and Abington has charged the 3% local option tax since October 2019, so the register total runs about 20% over the shelf price.
- License check. Verify licensed status via the Cannabis Control Commission at masscannabiscontrol.com before buying from any store you have not used before.
Getting there
CannaBarn sits on Route 58 on the east side of town, a short drive from Route 18 and from Route 3. Abington also has a stop on the MBTA Kingston Line commuter rail, off Center Avenue, though a car is the easier way between the stores.
Purchases ride home sealed. Massachusetts counts a package with a broken seal or partly removed contents as an open container, and the rule does not apply to the trunk or a locked glove compartment. Never consume while driving, and never drive after consuming.
Where it can be used
Massachusetts state law prohibits cannabis consumption in public spaces, and anywhere tobacco smoking is banned, with a civil fine of up to $100. Cannabis use is legal in a private residence, but landlords and hotels can prohibit it on their property. Carrying cannabis across a state line is a federal offense, so purchases stay in Massachusetts.
Around Abington
Ames Nowell State Park, a state park of roughly 600 acres, wraps around Cleveland Pond with boardwalks and wooded trails, which also makes it public space for the purposes of the rule above, and the Abington and Whitman town centers are a short drive from Route 18. It is a small-town errand, not a destination, and that is part of why the shops draw from Rockland, Whitman, Brockton and the rest of the South Shore.
