Somerville is built around its squares, and a cannabis-aware day here usually picks one square as the anchor and lets the rest of the day branch from there. Davis, Porter, Inman, Union, plus a few smaller ones, each have their own small-evening shape.

Davis Square, the Anchor

Davis Square has been the long-running Somerville anchor, with the Somerville Theatre, the Burren, Diesel Cafe, and the Red Line stop all clustered tightly. A Davis Square evening that starts at a coffee shop and ends at a small show at the theatre or the Burren works as a complete plan without needing to branch. Massachusetts state law prohibits cannabis consumption in public spaces, including the Davis Square plazas. Adults 21+ should consume at a private rental or home before any walk over.

Porter and Inman, the Slower Squares

Porter Square, half a stop east on the Red Line, runs quieter than Davis but has its own restaurant and bookstore mix. Inman Square, between Porter and Central, is the food-and-bar-heavy small cluster that pulls a steady neighborhood crowd. A Porter-to-Inman walk via Beacon Street is a long but pleasant walking stretch.

Union Square, the New Anchor

Union Square got its Green Line extension in 2022, which has reshaped the evening pace there significantly. The brewery cluster, Bow Market's small-vendor structure, and the food-and-bar density along Somerville Avenue make Union Square one of the better walking-evening neighborhoods in the metro.
