6 min read

Dispensaries in Lynn, MA sit on two roads: the Lynnway along the harbor, and Western Avenue running inland toward Saugus, with a cluster near downtown on Oxford and Lewis Streets. Lynn opened its first adult-use store in October 2019 and now has one of the denser concentrations of licensed shops on the North Shore, about 10 miles up the coast from downtown Boston. For adults 21+, here is where each verified store is, what to bring, and the rules that apply along a shoreline that is almost entirely public space.

The licensed stores in Lynn

As of 2026, the Cannabis Control Commission's Where to Buy map lists these Lynn retailers, each with a working storefront site:

  • Apothca, 491 Lynnway. Opened October 26, 2019, billed by the company at the time as Lynn's first adult-use dispensary, and set up to serve medical patients as well as adult-use customers. The CCC lists it as medical and adult-use.
  • Olde World Remedies, 953 Western Avenue. Soft-opened in July 2021 after a long permitting wait.
  • Good Chemistry, 696 Western Avenue. Opened in February 2022, when local coverage counted it as the city's fourth dispensary.
  • Diem, 211 Lewis Street. Its site lists hours of 9 AM to 11 PM daily.
  • Pluto Cannabis Co., 193 Oxford Street, downtown. Its site lists hours of 8 AM to 10 PM every day.

The CCC map also carries an older listing for another brand at the Oxford Street address that Pluto now occupies; that brand's own site no longer lists a Lynn store, so it is left off here. Hours not listed above vary by store and season; check each store's site before driving. The dispensary directory carries current details.

Just over the line, Terpene Journey at 430 Paradise Road in Swampscott is on the CCC map, and Salem, a short drive north, has several more.

Which one fits your route

The stores split by approach. Driving up Route 1A from Boston and Revere, the Lynnway is the first stretch of the city, and Apothca sits on it. Coming from Route 1 or Saugus, Western Avenue (Route 107) is the main road in, with Good Chemistry and Olde World Remedies along it. Arriving downtown by commuter rail, the Oxford and Lewis Street stores are the closest; Lynn is a stop on the MBTA's Newburyport/Rockport Line out of North Station.

Before you go

  • ID. Adults 21+ only, with a valid government-issued photo ID. Out-of-state driver's licenses and passports work.
  • Limits. As of 2026, under H.5350, adults 21+ can buy and carry up to 2 ounces of flower, or its equivalent of 10 grams of concentrate or 1,000 mg of edibles.
  • Taxes. Adult-use sales carry the 10.75% state excise tax and 6.25% sales tax, plus up to 3% local tax where the community adopts it.
  • Payment. Methods vary by store; check each store's site before the trip.
  • Edibles. Start low, go slow. A low-milligram first serving and a long wait before any second one.

The rule, plainly

The Cannabis Control Commission, at masscannabiscontrol.com, publishes the state rules:

  • Massachusetts state law prohibits cannabis consumption in public spaces. The CCC spells it out as no smoking, vaping or eating cannabis in public places or on federal land.
  • An open container of cannabis in a car's passenger area is illegal. Keep purchases closed, in the trunk or a locked glove compartment.
  • Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal.
  • Crossing a state line with cannabis is illegal, by car, plane, train or boat, even into a state with legal sales.
  • Landlords, employers and lodging can set their own rules.

What it means along the Lynn shore

Lynn's big open spaces are public, and most of them are state or city land. Lynn Shore Drive, the roughly mile-long ocean-side parkway toward Nahant, is maintained by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, and it runs along the Lynn Shore Reservation, which was created alongside the adjoining Nahant Beach Reservation. The beach, the seawall and the parking along the drive are public space.

Inland, Lynn Woods Reservation is a city-owned park of about 2,200 acres, one of the largest municipal parks in the region. Its trails climb to the Stone Tower, a fire lookout built by the WPA in 1936 on Burrill Hill, and pass Dungeon Rock, the cave a local spiritualist named Hiram Marble began digging out in the 1850s in search of pirate treasure. Woods, tower and trails are public land too.

Purchases go straight from the counter to the trunk. Riding the commuter rail home, they stay closed in a bag.

Lynn in winter

Winter is the quiet season on the shore. The beach empties, the parking along Lynn Shore Drive opens up, and the reservation's views across to Nahant and Boston Harbor are the same as in July with a fraction of the crowd. Lynn Woods is a cold-weather walk, with the Stone Tower the usual goal; a November 2024 wildfire burned more than 400 acres of the reservation, so check the city's parks page for trail notices before going. What is on across greater Boston this season is on the events hub.

Terpene Journey is just over the Swampscott line. Bring ID, stay within 2 ounces, keep it closed in the car, and keep it off Lynn Shore Drive and out of Lynn Woods.
